Do you know what ADHD in children is? First look at some statistics: 1 out of 20 children is affected by ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This is a serious problem that affects not only the child but also the family and potentially the whole class. It is a neurobiological condition that disrupts the processing of information in the brain. Contrary to popular belief, ADHD is not caused by poor upbringing, poor parenting or defective parent-child relationship. However, ADHD is a congenital anomaly that is characterized by different brain density and structural deficits and defective neurochemical processes. Physically, the brain of the child that has ADHD is somewhat different from a normal child; there is an alteration of the structure of the cerebral cortex specifically in the frontal lobe whose main function is directed towards thought and action. There are also key functions of the frontal lobe that are diminished or impaired such as impulse control, judgment, socialization and reason.
