If you have gotten injured by training very hard for your ice skating competition, it may not be smart to try and go through with it while wearing an ankle brace. If you have to wear a brace of any kind, like an ankle brace or knee brace, you should probably not be competing in the competition.
Taking a break from ice skating or training of any kind for any sport can be a smart idea, especially after an injury. If you have never used ankle braces or knee braces before and you are thinking about using them so that you can continue to compete, then you should really take a good hard long look at your life and reevaluate some things. Is this ice skating competition worth your health? What if you can never walk again after this, would it all be worth it? Making sure that you are not jeopardizing your future can be the main thing you should think about.
Wearing a knee brace or ankle brace while you are competing is a great way to get yourself hurt again. While an ankle brace will provide you with support, it is supposed to be worn while you are healing and not so that you can perform like you normally would. If you have torn ligaments and tendons then you will not be able to perform like you normally would and you could be endangering yourself even more. A knee brace may help you feel like you can stand but being out on the ice with the pressure from the audience and then trying to do the best that you can could injure you permanently.
Just relax. There will be more competitions and the world will not end if you miss this one. Go home, put your feet up and put heating pads on your injuries. If you use heating pads where you are sore and swollen it will help your recuperation time and you will be back on the ice in no time. Make sure that you remember what is really important; your health and well being. You have been working hard and your time will come but let your body rest; it can only do so much. When you are healed after you use heating pads, get back in the game!
Wearing ankle braces and knee braces while training just opens up your world to injury and you could get very hurt. There are many things you can do to injure yourself and over training is one of them. If you want to be the best you can be, rest and don’t try and compete in anything too strenuous with an ankle brace or knee brace on.
